BodyBannerWhat the hell is hemp oil and what do you do with it?!

$9.99 Costco. $19.99 Nutiva.com

$9.99 Costco. Nutiva is the best brand. Very high quality organic, unrefined, cold-pressed hemp oil.

Hemp oil is another health-boosting freebie to add to the mix. It has a distinct nutty flavor and is packed with Omega-3s, antioxidants, and Vitamin E.

All About Omegas

Hemp oil has the ideal 3:1 Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio. A lower ratio is correlated to the prevention or reversal of many chronic diseases, especially heart disease. Studies found that a lower Omega-6 to Omega-3 ratio in women was associated with a decreased risk for breast cancer. Additionally, a 3:1 ratio suppressed inflammation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Unlike flax and chia seeds which are also high in Omega-3s, hemp has Super Omega-3 (SDA) and Super Omega-6 (GLA), which help the body metabolize fat.

OMEGAS in 2 TBSP of hemp oil

  • Omega-6 Linoleic Acid — 14 g
  • Omega-3 Alpha-Linoleic Acid — 5 g
  • Omega-9 — 4 g
  • Omega-6 Gamma-Linoleic Acid — 1 g
  • Omega-3 Stearidonic Acid — 500 mg

Other Health Benefits

  • Lower cholesterol
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Tocopherol, an antioxidant in hemp oil, helps fight degenerative diseases such as atherosclerosis
  • Great for skin and hair

hemp green.

That dark hemp green reminds me of Turtle Pies from 3rd grade. These were disgusting, but I was still jealous of the kids who had them for lunch. It’s kinda like the Lunchables phenomenon.

Wait…isn’t hemp the same as marijuana?

No.

They do come from the same Cannabis plant, but are completely different from each other.

Just because you’re in the same family doesn’t mean that you’ll turn out the same. Check your own.

This was the first movie I saw on an airplane. It was a 14 hour flight to Seoul. I had just graduated from Kindergarten. Worst movie ever.

This was the first movie I ever watched on an airplane. It was a 14 hour flight to Korea and I had just graduated from Kindergarten. What a horrible way to pass time.

If weed is the stoner dropout son in the Cannabis fam,

Towelie just straight chillin.

Then hemp is the overachieving, triathlete-supermodel-Harvard M.D.-Golden Child who shelters abandoned puppies in his guest house.

All upside, no weaknesses. Go get some.

Hemp oil is to your health, what this dude is to all breathing women:

Girls go gaga for Gosling.

Girls go gaga for Gosling.

Ryan Gosling is every girl’s dream.

How do I know? I found this card in the store the other day.

*Guys, there’s something to learn from this. Start channeling your Inner Gosling this weekend.

It’ll keep the ladies happy, and everyone knows that that’s the first real step towards world peace.

NOW BACK TO HEMP OIL...

How to eat hemp oil

Hemp oil has a low smoke point and is not meant for cooking. Instead, use it as a topping to make your dishes more flavorful and nutritious.

  • I like to mix it with some high quality extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, lemon, and salt for an even healthier, richer-tasting salad dressing.

  • Turn that dry, bland quinoa into awesomeness with 2 TBSP of hemp oil and some salt + pepper.
  • Add it to an oil-based bread dip.

The other use for hemp oil:

Skincare.

Hemp oil is loaded with fatty acids, vitamin E, protein, and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it perfect for moisturizing and healing skin.

Studies show that hemp oil may improve psoriasis, eczema, acne and dry skin.

After reading about these benefits, I tried it out as a cleanser the other day.

  1. I vigorously rubbed about 1/2 TBSP onto my face in upward circles. The oil unclogged my pores, leaving my fingers speckled with tiny dirt bits.
  2. I let the hemp oil sit for a few minutes (like coconut oil, it absorbed fairly quickly).
  3. After rinsing it off, I put on coconut oil as a moisturizer. Done.

The hemp oil leaves your skin a bit too oily and shiny, but also noticeably baby-soft. It might not be the best to walk into the office like a grease ball, so I recommend making hemp oil a night time routine instead.

Stick with coconut oil for daytime activities. It has a ton of protective nutrients and gives you a nice healthy glow with a slight coconutty scent. Learn about using coconut oil for your skin here.

Apparently to guys I smell like soap. But to girls?… delicious. Sniff me.

Keep a spoon and a small bowl of hemp oil and/or coconut oil by the bathroom sink so there are no excuses. It’s the best thing to put on your skin, and really cheap.

Haircare.

Just like coconut oil, hemp’s nutrient density helps make it a great conditioner. It strengthens damaged hair and moisturizes dry scalp.

Use it as a conditioner, or add some to your shampoo.

My New 30-day Experiment– Regrowing Hair with Hemp?

My hair is starting to thin a bit. Not on top, but strangely, just on the sides. I read that hemp oil helps improve blood circulation and may stimulate hair growth with its abundance of fatty acids.

I’m going to rub some into my hair and leave it in over night for a month and we’ll see what happens. Hopefully something like this, but then again, maybe not.

After. — Yikes. Never forget ladies.

Hemp oil is so good for you and so easy to take advantage of. Make it a goal to fit in 1-2 TBSP a day. Pick some up at Costco. $10.

The Nutiva hemp oil is cold-pressed and unrefined, so it’s best to keep the bottle in the fridge to prevent it from going rancid.

Being so rich in Omega-3s, hemp oil the perfect substitute for fish oil pills. So make the switch now, especially with all of those radioactive Japanese fish swimming about these days… damn mutants.
