Raw honey is slightly different from what you might usually find in your pantry or at a restaurant. When honey is raw it means that it has not been filtered, heat-treated, or processed. Honey in its natural state is packed nutrients. However, the beneficial vitamins, minerals, and enzymes are highly heat sensitive and are almost all lost when processed. Most commercial honey, regardless of whether its Grade A or organic, has the same nutritional value as sugar (the goal is to cut out all sugar).

Make the smart switch to raw honey and start reaping these benefits.

Health Benefits:

Raw honey is rich in vitamins, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants such as:

  • Vitamin B1, B2, B3, B5, B6
  • Vitamin C
  • Magnesium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • Sodium Chorine
  • Sulphur
  • Phosphate

Raw honey also has antiviral, antibacterial and antifungal properties, which makes it a great immune system booster. It can be used like Neosporin to help heal cuts.

According to the American Apitherapy Society (AAS. http://www.apitherapy.org), when ingested raw honey can also be used to help with:

  • Stomach and intestinal ulcers
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Insomnia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Laryngitis

When applied externally, raw honey can be used as a treatment for:

  • Athlete’s foot
  • Eczema
  • Lip sores
  • Reduce scarring from wounds

The New York Times has a great article “The Island Where People Forget to Die” where they look into the diet and lifestyle of the people of Ikaria, a small Greek island known for extraordinary longevity of its residents.

For these healthy senior citizens (many over 90 years old), raw locally-grown organic honey is an important ingredient in their diet.

“They use [honey] for everything from treating wounds to curing hangovers, or for treating influenza. Old people here will start their day with a spoonful of honey. They take it like medicine.”

Stop eating honey from a bear. Start eating honey like an old dirty bastard.
