Adding a couple tablespoons of flax seed is an easy way to add an extra dose of fiber, Omega-3, and lignans to your diet.

Lignans are good antioxidants that can bind to free radicals to fight unchecked cell growth. Flax seed has one of the highest levels of lignans. To get the amount of lignans in 2 tbls of flax seed, you would have to eat about 30 cups of fresh broccoli.

Make sure that you eat ground flax seeds and not the whole seeds. The body has difficulty absorbing the nutrients from whole flax seeds.

Ground flax seed is powdery with a mild nutty flavor. Try adding flax seed to:

  • cereal
  • yogurt
  • peanut butter toast
  • smoothies
